2002 Point of the Mountain

 Demo Days May 17-19

Please note the date change from previous years, the date is May 17-19 (it is not during Memorial Day this year).

The So Cal XC Competition is during Memorial Day...http://www.socalpgopen.org/2002/about.html

The Demo Days are the ultimate opportunity to share air with friends. But, it is also your chance to get leading edge information from industry experts about new technology and techniques. Most importantly, you can see and fly all of the new gliders back to back. While three days isn't enough time to really evaluate every glider, it is a great start.

The 2002 Point of the Mountain Demo Days will include the usual "dawn till dusk" activity with endless demo flying, informative sessions (mid-day), trips to other local sites, towing, powered paragliding, special demonstrations, some cross country, a record attempt and some parties! So, makes plans to join us for our favorite event of the year.

All of the nations leading handlers of paragliding and powered paragliding products will be here and will sport a whole host of new models and accessories. As for details, the registration is $35 and includes a T-shirt and a party. Stay tuned for further updates.

Last year Super Fly brought two international aerobatic super stars, they both threw their reserves. Needless to say the show was well worth the price of admission. This year, new, surprise guests who promise an even better show than ever.

Demo Days Competitions

The competition will be comprised of six events. The pilots highest three scores will be used to determine a final result.

Additional points will be given for pilots that compete on demo paragliders and/or harness.

1)    Highest altitude gain - Pilots will launch from, and landing at, the North Side of the Point of the Mountain.  Pilots can try for a high altitude gain each day, and the highest gain during the Demo Days will win.

2)     Longest out and return - Pilots will launch from, and landing at, the North or South Side of the Point of the Mountain.  A GPS will be needed for scoring (some demo and rental units will be available). This event will take place each day and the winner will be determined at the end of three days.

3)     Hike and fly race - Pilots will start from the North Side Bench parking lot and will hike to the 3/4 launch.  Competitors will launch and then land at the bottom of the North Side.  Points will be deducted for radical maneuvers and unsafe descents. No deflations, extreme bank, stalls or spins will be allowed. A referee will be at ¾ launch maintaining order while judges will be on launch and on the ground scoring pilot technique.

4)     Longest single flight (duration) - Pilots can attempt a "longest flight" on any of the three days and from the North or the South Side.   A variometer with flight recorder will be needed to score this event (some demo and rental units will be available).

5)     A "Bombs Away" event- will take place on one of the days.  A target will be established and each pilot will be provided with a numbered bomb.  The pilot that drops the bomb closest to the bulls eye scores the highest.

6)     Spot Landing – Naturally, points will be deducted for sloppy approaches, butt landings and unsafe maneuvering.  A judge will be at the spot to measure distances and to score pilot technique.
